The Burg is an important part of Spies. It is the great equalizer - everyone can talk to everyone whether they are in the same time zone or don't have an hour on the computer. It's important to use it to post your thoughts on the game and play mafia. After all, in 99% of mafia games, it is pretty much the entire game. Some people are not posting in the Burg and that is a problem. So this episode's activity is going to encourage discussion in this public forum. Continue to use AIM to voice your suspicions privately, but post many thoughts here. We had a ton of Burg posting at the start of the game but recently there seems to be less posting amongst this group of 21 than there was in one team of 11. One reason why I think some people may not be posting more in the Burg is because of recent harassment. While you are encouraged to respond, debate, and argue with others, don't just nastily dismiss people's thoughts with an insult. Be mature. It's okay to disagree with people but do so like an adult. This is a game you are playing remember. Eight posts containing actual Spies-related content are required in the Burg before Exile #5 or you will receive three penalty self-votes. I may going to create topics periodically to spark discussion but there are already a few posted recently which you can respond to. And you can always create your own!

ok since J S has pointed this out, let me ask the Burgers a question: why don't YOU post in the burg?
My answer is, I feel like I get a better idea of where people stand from chatting with them one-on-one or in chatrooms than I do from here. When people post in public they lie, or they don't say what they really think. Maybe they don't want to give away their thoughts to the spies. Maybe they are spies and don't want to leave evidence behind for the citizens.
I've also found that while chatting to people often develops into ideas that might be useful, forum posts seem to descend into playground squabbles really easily. You get huge arguments over the tiniest piece of evidence that means nothing at all, or threads that turn into semi-personal attacks. I feel that the burg can easily be used as a distraction.

Why should you use the Burg?- You can express your thoughts without having to explain it multiple times to multiple individuals.
- Everyone is able to view your posts for reference use which doesn't help the spies but definitely benefits the citizens.
- The spies are prevented from taking a neutral, non-contributing stance.
- Not everyone is on at the same time. You can easily contact some people via the boards.
- Always remember, the spies benefit from secrecy. Posting in the Burg allows everyone to know everything.

I don't really like posting in the Burg that much unless it's to get a point across to a lot of people at the same time...
PMs and AIM are so much easier but nobody ever wants to talk to me... Not that I'm not already used to that.

I agree with Rey pretty forcefully on all his points actually.
I for one am always open and honest with everything I post in the burg. I know the spies aren't, so I know there are lies in the burg, but I really hope that no citizens are hiding anything in their burg posts. I suppose Fake Case-Gate has already taken away that hope, but I stand by it.
In fact, as Sam will tell you, my confessional is rather scant right now because most of my inner thoughts just end up spewed across burgland...

The Burg is a cesspool of playground nonsense. OK, so maybe it's not all that bad, but I agree with Ed Ellis that I get a LOT more from one-on-one chats as a player of Spies than I get from Burg postings. I don't mean to say that the Burg isn't useful or meaningful, but well-thought-out posts are few and far between. I'm not the biggest Burg poster and I freely admit that. I'm also wary of what is posted in the Burg because it isn't as off-the-cuff as AIM chats. Therefore, I resolve to post more AIM chats to the Burg in an attempt to represent the way in which I gain the best "reads" on other folks. I will also go on record as saying that requiring a hard number of "Spies-related" or "substantial" posts strikes me as heavy handed, but I'm trying to do my best to off the Spies and if fascist* tactics are the best way to make us all feel safe do that, I'll gladly vote Bush back into office. *OK, I know it's a game, but this really gets my goat. Feel free not to have my back since I'm roundabout challenging the moderator on this. ![;)](http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif) Also, this had better count as one of my eight. edit: I get Ed and Ellis confused sometimes when I just see their pictures, just like I get Mirela and Jenya confused sometimes; I imagine that some of you get Jason and I confused because we both have great hair.

I think the moderator wants to make the game more interesting for himself and the viewers. And apparently there are a lot of viewers. They can't read your AIM chats, so maybe consider posting to be you blowing a kiss to all the Amelia fans out there. ![:)](http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif)

I don't like to post in the Burg. Every time I do, seems like, I get cut down by someone (read: Rey, Boris, Jenya). It makes the game less fun for me.

Doesn't seem like you talk on AIM either, so it's a lose-lose situation.

I post in the Burg. I also chat on AIM. It is a thing I like to call Multi-tasking.
Lies are everywhere, not just The Burg. Posting your thoughts and contributing to the Burg is beneficial to the Citizens. It helps establish connections, catching people in lies.
If you stick with AIM, are you all making an effort to talk to every single player? Because saying you get a better read off of people via AIM, then never talking to a person, then posting about them in The Burg. How does that happen?

Well, Rey, I don't talk to you; I have you blocked, because you don't talk to me without insulting me. There is what, a maximum of five people that you actually talk to?

Amelia, who have you interacted with on AIM? Meaning, who have you actually asked questions to, and gone out of your way to contact. I will be asking each individual you state to verify if it's true that you interacted.

Pretty much everyone but you, William and Thor because I haven't ever seen you guys on when I'm on, though I haven't talked with Khaled, Boris, Oswald, Gretchen and Tiberius as much as I probably should have.

How many people have you chatted with and asked questions of? Threats of verification included.

Reminder that this is due 9:00 PM CDT Sunday. Each post must have actual content, a post simply with a pithy joke does not count. You will receive three self-votes if you do not have 8 content posts in Episode #5. The only way you will be exempt from this is if you were away entirely since the activity was announced which I think is Gretchen only atm. We've been doing exceptionally well with basically no penalty votes until last week when there was tons. I'm hoping they don't show up any more! Do not forget about these penalty votes, if you think one of these people is a Spy but they don't have overwhelming support, voting for someone who you think might get penalty votes could help them get Exiled. ![:D](http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g221/SorintheSeeker/tophat.gif)

Shouldn't you give Levi a decrease since he just came back yesterday?
Edit: Then again.. eight posts isn't that much.

I had very little time to get the posts, and it's challenging to get all of them in such a little time without meaningless fluff and double posts, etc.
