I can't wait until the live chat on Sunday and I've already "met" two of my fellow Spies.
I guess I'm a little worried about asking too many questions because it will be clear I'm a newbie. I'm confident in my abilities to strategize as a Spy, though, and also to lie on my feet.

Okay, the match the name with the avatar thing is worrying me a bit, as several people thought that I look like a spy. (I actually kind of think I do too.)
I am thinking I should play it gloomy or sullen, both of which fit with my character's back story. My usual mafia town personality is breezy, confused, nice but easy to anger, so in case anyone I know is playing this game they won't suspect it's me.
Okay, but now I'm doubting my ability to act gloomy or sullen on AIM.
Even more worrying is that they also picked one of my teammates (can't remember the names yet) as a spy and said they could see us as a couple. That's kind of a handicap to start out with.

hmm... I'm unsure if that will be a problem, as I don't know that anyone believes there is a relation between a character's picture and their alignment haha. And I think, although they did put down the names 'donald' and 'iris' together in a fake pairing - that person had actually gotten the names to pictures link wrong and was actually referring to people in 2 different pictures. I think once you open your mouth and an actual person jumps out from behind that picture it'll change things haha. Just wanted to leave ya a short message about your upcoming spy-adventure before the game begins. I'm very eager to see how you enmesh yourself into the game and how you manage to swerve your way through all the toppling citizens (and spies!) I think you might be able to keep it up for the long haul and pull through. And of course you mentioned something about the possibility of claiming fake roles in your application, that's always fun to see. ;D That's about it, good luck!

Hi Sam, thanks, and one quick question. I'm reading the Burg board now and I see we're divided into teams. I have access to one of the teams (...264) but my name isn't listed as a team member. I'm not sure if that's a mistake or if it's some unforseen twist, so I'm checking before I start adding people to AIM.

Okay, maybe I'm just losing my mind? I see I'm on 244 and I no longer see the list that divided people into teams. So maybe that was just a work in progress? I'm going to go based on the assumption that I am legitimately on 244 and am allowed to talk there.

Okay, I've proven I'm an idiot when it comes to numbers, as I complained to Sam that I wasn't listed on my team when in fact I am.
And I just met my first teammate, Robert, who seems friendly. It looks like I'm the only Spy on my team, but I need to double-check that. Personally I'm okay with that because it will make it easier to avoid accidentally knowing things I shouldn't know in public.

I've screwed up already but hopefully not so badly, as I do have a good cover story. I'm holding my breath about Robert, though, he's tricky. Yvette is also obviously very bright and experienced, as seems Ariel.
Spoken individually so far to Robert, Yvette, Georgia, Mei Yun, and (very, very briefly) Ed. Georgia seems friendly/helpful, so I'm going to try to make friends with her.

I stuck with the competition for as long as I could last night. It was good because (a) it was fun and (b) I feel like I bonded with Ariel a little bit.

Okay, I seem to have bonded with Yvette as well, and then suddenly she looked over her notes and felt suspicious of someone that she "wanted to trust" based on her conversations with them before the opening chat. I suspect it's me, because she suddenly got a lot less chattier with me. I reread our conversation and I don't see anything suspicious at all.
Better be wary of this one, she's whip-smart, and the most difficult suspicions to fight are the gut suspicions.

Oh, and I have very good reason to smudge Georgia now. She's pinging both Robert and Yvette, and in the competition chat she said, "We don't want power to get outside the hands of the Spies." She was called on it and didn't respond to two questions. So she's high on everyone's list, but she's not on our Union team so I can't do much about it yet. Her seeming attack on Yvette in the chat last night made people suspect her too.

I think I'm going to go after Ed. Robert's suspicious of him, Yvette's mildly suspicious of him...Mirela or Ed, definitely. I would be suspicious too if I were a citizen. Now I need to talk to him in private to come up with my own reason for being suspicious of him.

Okay, I was invited into the "inner sanctum" of our team: Yvette, Robert, Faith, and Ariel. They are creating a plan to make Yvette and Robert look like everyone suspects them so that the Spies won't Imprison either of them at night.
Callahan, Ed, and Mirela aren't being told of the plan. The idea is that we will look like we're against Robert and Yvette while actually Exiling Thor due to the inactive votes.
I don't fully understand the plan and I'm not fully sure that it's not a trick, but I'm going alone with it. Being a Spy is making me paranoid. I'm wondering if they all secretly suspect me and will actually vote me or something. I don't like the hidden votes.

If I start one more confessional with "okay," please shoot me.
Today was my first back-stabbing Spy maneuver. I chatted privately with Callahan, let him dig a hole for himself (admittedly, Robert and Yvette seem to want to believe he's a Spy so that part wasn't too difficult), led him on re the voting, and then posted it in the Burg for all to see.
I feel terrible, actually. I like him and I hate turning on someone like that. If I'm a successful Spy, it will be because I truly am playing the way I would if I were a Citizen.
Going to post my chat log with Yvette and Robert again to show how this is coming about.

To be used against Yvette when I have to go against her: in the thread on Khaled she states that voting for an inactive is bad because it negates the opportunity to examine the motives for the vote. Yet she was instrumental in the plot to make it appear like she and Robert were going to be exiled while really throwing the votes to Thor.

Oh, and I'm going to lie low today. I've said enough to have a consistent position, I think. Well, I've flip flopped a bit, but I would do that even more so if I were a Citizen. It seems pretty clear that Callahan or Khaled will be voted off, so I'm not going to chat today until Exile, unless something drastically different happens. I will claim just being busy, although I'd better put AIM on and put my message on away.
I am so enjoying this game. Thanks, Sam, it's a truly awesome experience. And it's funny...even though I normally much prefer being scum to being town, and I'm delighted to be a Spy in this game, now I want to come back for more and see how I do as a Citizen next time.
