All rules must be followed and will be enforced. Please familiarize yourself with them.
The Big Two Rules
A) You are not allowed to go outside the game to show "proof" of your status as a Spy, Citizen, or other role in the game. This means you can NOT show someone a conversation that you have with me in order to "prove" that you are a Citizen. You are not allowed to take screenshots of your confessional to show that you are a Citizen.
The reason behind this is that I would like to talk to you in IM and in your private confessionals about your experiences in the game. If someone used their conversations with me (in which I will undoubtedly make reference to your Identity) to gain leverage in the game - I would have to cease talking with everybody and my experience would be beyond dull and lifeless. In the real mafia game you can't prove your Identity and it must be the same here.
Anyone who does this will be immediately removed from the game. This includes hinting, suggesting, or copying sections of text I post in your confessionals in order to "confirm" that another player has a specific role. For example, if two people both receive an identical post from me that reveals secret, private information you cannot copy the whole or part of the text in order to prove that you received it too. Keep in mind these texts may be provided to Spies. Remember that it is simple to fake conversations and screenshots.
B) You are not allowed to reveal your alias, personal information, or ways of contacting you that aren't through accounts I provide. Everything must be kept within the game so outside influences don't appear. You are not allowed to contact each other through off-site message boards or through private AIM/e-mail regarding game matters.
IMMEDIATELY after you are realize you are eliminated, you must not attempt to share game-related information with anyone still in the game. You may take a few minutes to say your goodbyes and wish others luck, but you MAY NOT reveal any game-related information. For the entire time you are in the game before it is announced you are eliminated, you are encouraged to spread as much information and theories as you wish. However, once you are eliminated, you are no longer a part of the game and your theories must go with you. People in games don't get to yell out 1,000 word speeches, reveal their entire gameplan and secrets, or post 50 conversations after their name is read. So that is how it works here too.
Aliases will be revealed as soon as the game ends and you can talk after it's over. Do not try and influence the game in any way after you are eliminated, no matter how badly you want to tell Person Z about your Spy suspicions or Person Q about your secret role.
Nasty stuff, rules, but they are very important to have. This is just to painstakingly spell out all the rules that I follow strictly so if issues come up during the game I can just point here and not have to say anything.
SPIES RULES:
1. Votes to Exile a Spy are due before the LIVE announcement of votes. You must vote by creating a new topic in your confessional before this deadline. You may vote any time after someone has been Imprisoned.
2. If you do not vote, it will be counted as self-votes against yourself. (see "penalties for idling" for more information) If you fail to vote a second time, you may be removed from the game by me for non-participation. If you fail to a vote a third time, it's an automatic elimination.
3. If you do not communicate with your fellow players, participate in mandatory host created activities, or post absolutely nothing in your confessional for a very long time, I have the right to remove you. You will receive a warning first. I don't want to do this at all (and rarely, rarely ever do) so keep up with things. Official procedures can be found in the Idling thread.
4. I think this goes without saying: but please do not threaten the host. Keep in mind I do all this work for your enjoyment and I have NO favorites and NO bias. Repeat: I have no bias. My integrity as a host that I have built up over the past 8 years is essential to me. If you don't believe me ask some people that I have still hosted fairly over the years. I've hosted 12 unbiased and fair games so I don't think this should be an issue. I will be as clear and fair as I can about all rules, deadlines, and decisions. If you have questions about anything, ask!
5. You need to post game-related conversations with other players in your confessional. The newest AIM has an automatic logging feature that may help you. I understand it is difficult, frustrating, and time consuming sometimes but please try and post them when you can. I do read the conversations you post and so do people after the game is over.
6. No matter how upset you are that you are about to be eliminated, no quitting!
7. You may change your vote as many times as you like up until the deadline. DO NOT DELETE/ERASE/MODIFY the vote you are changing! Simply post a reply to your voting thread indicating that you wish to change your vote. Provide a new vote with a new reason, as all votes must have reasons. You can't vote for yourself.
The reason for this is I often confirm votes in the middle of the live chat (many votes are changed or inputted at the last minute). If you edit or modify your vote, it does not show up as a new post on the front page of the website and I will skip by it. During this time I have to ask questions, collect votes, present them, and keep Exile Chat going as well as deal with one-on-one IM's between 20+ people. So please do not ever edit or modify your votes. You can still change whenever you want just make a new post and I will count only the most recent post.
8. When you are voted off, do not interfere with the game, either by releasing information to the players or attempting to influence how it goes. When you are eliminated, you may take a few minutes to say your goodbyes. You may not release any game-related information in this time. Afterwards, please sign off your AIM name and write your Final Words in your confessional, saying the last things you want to say and maybe summing up your game. Interfering after you have been eliminated makes the game enjoyable for nobody. Let the others finish it out.
9. Penalty self-votes may be awarded if you break any of the rules. Penalty votes will no longer take effect at the Final Nine Exile and beyond. This may occur earlier at my discretion.
10. You are free to copy sections of conversations to each other. You may NOT copy sets of entire conversations to other people or post them publicly. Basically, some people attempt to prove they are a Citizen by posting 10-15 conversations they had with a recently-exiled Spy publicly. This is not acceptable. Any posts of this nature where you copy large numbers of your conversations in an attempt to 'prove' your status will result in penalty votes or removal. You may not PM these to other people or transfer these sets of conversations in any way.
It is fine to send someone a copy of a conversation you just had with them for the purposes of posting it in your confessional. It is fine to copy long stretches of text to either post in the Burg or to other players. The only problem is posting 3 or more sets of entire conversations you had with someone in order to prove your Identity. Keep in mind that Spies will be having "Citizen conversations" with each other where they pretend to be Citizens just so they can show it to other people and 'prove' their Identity.
11. Please do not snoop around using obscure or clever board or Internet tricks to break into private areas or discover things beforehand.
I spend so much extra time trying to guard things like this, to hide events from every possible angle, and make sure things don't get spoiled by people using obscure internet tricks. For example, I wait to upload images until the last minute so someone doesn't try and find it by changing certain words on my photobucket account. Please please don't do things like this, it's just lame. I waste tons and tons of time doing stuff like this protecting it against the 2 or 3 people who might try and do this.
Please don't go snooping around trying to cheat and find things where you shouldn't be. It just makes it not fun. Don't try and guess people's passwords. It's a waste of time and insulting to me. I really don't think you can find anything, and not many people have, but I also don't spend the extra hour in addition to the extra hours I already spend taking things from 99% to 100% unfindable. It's just tiring.
12. Do not copy your confessionals and show them to other people for purposes of proving you are a Citizen. Someone in Spies 4 copied every confessional they had written over the past 45 days and PM'ed it to someone. This is not acceptable and will now get you removed from the game, no questions asked. You are not allowed to copy entire sets of confessionals and show them in anyway.
Copying things from your confessionals is a fine line. For example, let's say you wrote up a lengthy list of suspicions on people, and you gathered up the data and put it together in your confessional. Then you copy/paste that into the Burg to share it with others. Obviously that's okay.
What's not okay is to strongarm someone in AIM chat and tell them: "Hey, go to Episode 4 and copy/paste a confessional saying your thoughts on Exile 3 and paste them to me within 2 minutes. If you do not then I know you don't have them and that means you are a Spy!" That's dumb. That will get you kicked out.
Somewhere in between those two extremes is a line, but in general don't copy/paste things from your confessional to others (unless you are voluntarily showing others your suspicions) or ask others to show you what they wrote there. Confessionals are private for a reason!
13. Last game we had a significant problem with emissions of radioactive negativity emanating from a few players. Obviously I suck up and take abuse where I can but that behavior was just so far over the line. I appreciate your questions, constructive criticism, and of course you are allowed to have a negative opinion of the game. What you can't do is IM me every time I log on AIM everyday whining about this or that or complaining or insulting me or just acting like a three-year-old. I used to be able to stomach that for the game but I'm getting old and I can't take it anymore. =P
What I recommend doing in the case you find yourself overwhelmed with negative thoughts is to go to blogspot.com and start your own blog! Perhaps call it samisaputridpixie.blogspot.com I think that one is open. On that blog you can spend hours every day bitching about me in 1,000 word posts about my foibles and weaknesses. Keep all that in there and don't bring it to me.
Like I said, I appreciate questions and constructive criticism but brattiness and whininess is something I'm not prepared to tolerate anymore. If over a week I find that every time I go to your confessional I find a new post lambasting a game setup decision you don't understand because you have no idea what's really going on, or every time I scroll by a post with your name I see you whining about something that isn't even true about me that you heard a rumor about, I'm going to give you an official warning privately in your confessional. If you continue this behavior I'm going to replace you, no questions asked.
Please read ALL the rules and be familiar with them!
Thanks.
