Challenge 8 was probably my favorite. In the 1500s some guy made this incredibly intricate map of Europe called the Carta Marina. It was like almost a five foot square engraving. You can see it here: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ea/Carta_Marina.jpegI gave everyone that link and we played a Where's Waldo-ish type game. I would show them a tiny picture on the map and they'd have to find it, or I'd ask them a question about the map. Since it was 2 vs. 9, each one of the 9 got a square to look in. Each round I also gave the 2 one different square each to look in, one of which contained the answer. Here were the questions (see if you can find them yourself!) 1. Where is PXVII located? 2. ![](http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g221/SorintheSeeker/boatguy.jpg) 3. ![](http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g221/SorintheSeeker/hmm.jpg) 4. ![](http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g221/SorintheSeeker/bota.jpg) 5. ![](http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g221/SorintheSeeker/myst.jpg) 6. Find a horse that jumps over water. Go south until you locate an oddly-placed spikey weapon. Go west until you hit a city by a river that forks into two. Go north until you hit a city that sounds like a continent. Go west until you hit a city that is now a capital of a European nation. What is that city? 7. Which word is NOT located in this panel? Vabso, Alan, Roden, Kil, Frosten 8. ![](http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g221/SorintheSeeker/orchid.jpg)
