So far I've given you a brief explanation of the major gameplay shift in Spies 6: The Union. On predetermined Episodes, players will use different voting systems in order to decide which one of you will be Exiled. The normal voting system will be used otherwise. Many different kinds of voting systems will be used, and instructions and explanations on that round's voting system will be given at the beginning of the Episode (with the exception of this one).
Before we talk about what changes will be made in these special Episodes it's important to examine the basic voting system itself. In the normal system, each player privately casts a vote for one person before Exile. All votes are tallied at Exile, with the name of the person who cast each vote publicly revealed. The person with the most votes (a plurality) is Exiled. A majority of votes is not required. If that vote is a tie, a revote between all top vote-getters is scheduled which follows the same rules. If this revote is still a tie, the Tiebreaker decides which of the highest vote-getters in the revote is Exiled.
This system may seem a little different to some. In most forum mafia games players make votes in-thread, often changing several times in the course of the day. These votes are often recorded and used as evidence. However, if you think of the actual game of mafia as it is played in real life, these multiple votes and vote-recordings don't take place. Players simply state their non-binding preferences (as they do during the day in Spies), and then cast their public, official vote at the end of the day. Spies aims to follow the real life game in this respect.
Some games require a majority of the players to eliminate someone. Others have special rules for ties. As you can imagine, each group of people who play mafia create their own roles, setups, and voting rules. Because how you cast your vote can influence who ends up leaving, these systems could subtly influence the course of the game.
Many of the established Spies voting rules may change with each voting shift. A new post will be made each time a new voting system comes into place explaining all of these changes. Each voting system will only last one Episode. However, many of the properties of the normal voting system will still be in place.
Please be sure to read and re-read each post explaining that round's voting systems when I post it. It is important that you fully understand the voting systems. Ask any questions you may have in that thread. I didn't choose insanely complex voting systems to explain or enact and a lot of these voting systems are used in real life with the general populace so you should be able to get it.
One note about the impact of the voting systems. They aren't there just to make you jump through a few extra hoops every other Exile. With the normal voting system, you might attempt to get other players to cast votes in ways that would be advantageous to you. This is why it is important to fully understand each new voting system and use it to your advantage.
If nothing else, the Spies will certainly be working to use each new voting system to their full advantage - exploiting it's weaknesses, taking advantage of the processes, and attempting to manipulate it to get their desired result. You should too. Think about each voting system and how you could use it to your advantage. Tons of thought has gone into choosing each one, and there are many possibilities for each, some that might not be apparent at first glance...

- Unless stated otherwise, you must still vote privately in your confessional by the deadline.
- Unless stated otherwise, your vote will be publicly revealed.
- Voting is always compulsory. Failure to cast a vote by the deadline will result in strict self-vote penalties. You are never allowed to vote for yourself.
- Unless stated otherwise, votes will be revealed live at Exile, so still come! =)
- Some voting systems require a form to be filled out. Instructions will be extremely clear on how to fill out this form. If you fail to fill out the form correctly, your vote will be discounted. You will then vote for yourself and receive penalty votes. If you have questions please ask! If you think it might be wrong IM me the link to your posted vote and I will verify it for you. Just like in real life, and just like what happened to those old people in Florida with those butterfly ballots, if you don't fill it out right it doesn't count. =P Please be very sure you fill it out and follow directions, strangely I had several people just not fill in blanks of a form during a similar event last season. Every single one of you who was here voted correctly in Episode #1 so maybe this won't be a problem.
